Romanian · Morning Brief

Romanian conversation practice, every morning.

Finding someone to practise Romanian with is hard, especially outside Romania. Morning Brief calls you every morning for five minutes in Romanian, and turns what you got wrong into practice for later.

A Romanian call, start to finish
Cadi

Bună dimineața! Ce ai făcut aseară?

Good morning! What did you do last night?

You

Am gătit cu soția mea. Am făcut o ciorbă și pâine.

I cooked with my wife. We made a soup and bread.

Cadi

Sună delicios! Și azi? Ai mult de lucru?

Sounds delicious! And today? Lots of work?

You

Da, dar diseară mă uit la un film.

Yes, but tonight I'm watching a film.

The article slip in the second line goes into the recap. The conversation keeps going.

How it works

Four steps to your first call

  1. Romanian, already picked

You came here for Romanian, so that step is done. You can change it on the next screen.

  2. Your number and a time

Create an account, add your mobile number, and choose when mornings suit you, in your own time zone.

  3. 7 days free, no card

Your calls start straight away. We only ask for payment if you want to keep them after the first week.

  4. Your phone rings

Cadi calls, you chat for about five minutes, and your recap is waiting when you hang up.

A language with few practice partners

Romanian has around 24 million speakers and very few places to practise it. Classes are rare outside Romania and Moldova, and conversation exchanges often end up in English. Many learners are married into a Romanian family or reconnecting with their own, and they need speaking time more than anything.

Romanian is a Romance language with a twist: the definite article sticks to the end of the noun ("casa", "omul"), there are cases, and there is a neuter gender. You can learn these from a book. You get them right in conversation only by using them over and over.

A five-minute call is a manageable daily dose, and it fits around family and work.

After the call

The Romanian mistakes that come back to you

Each call ends with a recap. Typical Romanian fixes look like this, and each becomes a review card.

  • Am făcut o ciorbă și pâineAm făcut o ciorbă și niște pâine"Niște" is the natural way to say "some" with uncountable nouns.
  • Cartea lui Maria e pe masăCartea Mariei e pe masăFeminine names take the genitive ending.
  • Eu sunt 40 de aniEu am 40 de aniAge uses a avea.
Morning Brief

Less than one tutor hour a month

CA$49/month for a call every morning. One hour with a private tutor usually costs CA$60–100. This does not replace that hour; it makes it count.

Romanian tutors are scarce, so every lesson counts. The calls keep you speaking between them, and your recaps let your tutor go straight to what needs work.

7 days free with no card. Then CA$49/month (or CA$490/year) if you want to keep your calls.

Questions

Is Romanian really supported, or is it an afterthought?

It is fully supported: the calls, the corrections and the review cards all work in Romanian.

My partner is Romanian. Will this help me talk with the family?

That is a common reason people use it. Everyday conversation about your day is exactly what family conversation is made of.

Can you call me in Romania?

Yes. Romania is on our calling list, along with Canada, the US and most of Europe.

What if I can only say a few words?

Beginners get a slower call with short questions and English when needed. You can start with one-word answers.

How much does it cost?

Speak out loud every morning. Watch it get easier.
